Throwback Style: The 90's Are Calling but We're not Giving Back These Fashions
It’s hard to dispute that the ‘90s were a special decade. Honestly, there just hasn’t been another era that has produced the same iconic music, fashion, and entertainment. Not only were the ‘90s full of great TV and music culture, but they also brought some long-lasting fashion trends to the table. Here are some of the top trends from the ‘90s that we’re just not over yet.
Crop Tops
You can debate the pierced belly button if you like, but crop tops are here to stay. Originally brought to our attention by big names like Mariah Carey and Brandy, the cropped top comes in all shapes and styles. You can even find it anywhere from on the red carpet to in the wedding chapel. With all of its many variations, this is one timeless piece that you shouldn’t neglect in your wardrobe.
Wide-Legged Pants
Long before the age of skinnies, the wide-legged jean was queen. Now, as jeggings and other skin-tight styles have taken over, the older style has earned the nicknames “mom jeans” or “boyfriend jeans.” But don’t let the labels fool you. Now combined with the even more retro high-waist style, these sweet, flattering pants are just as relevant and on-point as ever.
Overalls
Yes, jumpsuits are great, but we can’t forget the originals. Tia and Tamara, the Fresh Prince, and TLC all taught us how to rock overalls, and we aren’t about to stop. Pair them with whatever you like, but these denim icons aren’t going anywhere.
Graphic Tees
In a world where Hip-Hop and R&B were moving out of the cities and taking over the world, graphic tees just made sense. In the ‘90s, that meant they showed up everywhere. Cropped or baggy, paired with denim, we wore our anthems. We proudly sported our messages and the faces of our idols. This wasn’t a new trend, and it’s still very much around today. In fact, Swagtastic Gear carries a whole ‘90s-inspired line.
We can all see it: the ‘90s creeping back into the fashion world. Now, it might not all be worth the revisit (I’m looking at you, skirts over pants). But the ‘90s, with their iconic music, television, and fashion, will always be near and dear to our hearts. It was a decade when we sent a message through our fashion. And that’s something that will never go out of style.
